The heritage site in Geszt is a unique, complex tourism development model project within the network of N\u00d6F Nkft. In addition to the permanent exhibition, it has a dedicated space for museum education activities, a caf\u00e9, a guest house, a restaurant and sports fields.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The primary aim of the reconstruction of the Tisza Castle in Geszt was to restore the building complex to its last original state. In the renovation of the main building, which was in a poor state both technically and aesthetically, the greatest challenges were the damp walls and the lack of drainage.<\/p>\n

In the first stage of the project, unused farm buildings were pulled down and the area was rehabilitated. This was followed by the full renovation of the mechanical installations, the development of public utilities, the replacement of the electric system and the installation of the security system in the main castle building. The whole structure of the roof and the ceiling were reinforced so that it could bear the load of the roof of the terrace and the new room created in the attic for the activities offered in our museum education programme.<\/p>\n

Pieces of the wooden floor, and the doors and windows that could be preserved were restored and put back in their original place. Items that needed to be replaced were manufactured with period-appropriate materials and design.<\/p>\n

Items on the facade were cleaned, repaired and replaced, too.<\/p>\n

In the main castle building, some rooms now have their original function, like the study of Istv\u00e1n Tisza, while the ladies\u2019 salon got a new function as it became an exhibition space and an event venue. Other spaces of the castle now provide modern services: there is a caf\u00e9 and a museum education activity area.<\/p>\n

Castle garden and castle park<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

The fencing around the 19-ha park and garden has been renovated and extended. There are new flowers and plants in the ornamental garden, an irrigation system has been installed, alleys and a visitor path have been created with decorative lighting. There are new benches, garbage cans and lamp posts to make your visit to the park even more enjoyable. 64 new parking places are available to visitors in the castle garden. Water from a new, drilled well is used to irrigate the ornamental garden.<\/p>\n

Sport lovers can use the multifunctional sports field (tennis court, volleyball court, handball court), the football pitch and a p\u00e9tanque terrain. Several bike racks are available. The castle park and the castle garden are now a great venue for outdoor events, sports and family events and weddings, and families with little children will also enjoy the playground.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

J\u00e1nos Arany Guest House<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

The J\u00e1nos Arany Guest House was built to provide quality accommodation to Hungarian and foreign guests. From the newly-built, two-storey building, a glass corridor will take you directly to the main building of the castle.<\/p>\n

In the guest house \u2013 a new, modern building with simple design that suits the architectural features of the renovated castle \u2013 high quality rooms and a restaurant are available to our guests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

Overseer\u2019s House<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

The house of the overseer of the estate has been renovated, both technically and aesthetically, and given a completely new function: the ticket office, the gift shop and the cloakroom are located here now.<\/p>\n

Opposite the Overseer\u2019s House \u2013 outside the castle garden \u2013 there is a parking place for 62 vehicles (buses and cars) and an EV charging station.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

The crypt of the Tisza family<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A few minutes\u2019 walk from the castle will take you to the Tisza family crypt, which was originally created by L\u00e1szl\u00f3 I Tisza in 1764. The renovation involved landscaping, the renewal of the structure and the facade, and the reconstruction of the inner space. The aim was to improve the condition of the crypt, both technically and aesthetically, so that this prestigious heritage site can preserve the memory of the Tisza family in a worthy way for future generations and to make it accessible to visitors and guests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

J\u00e1nos Arany Memorial House<\/h3><\/div><\/div>

The garden lodge in the castle park where once the great poet J\u00e1nos Arany stayed has also been reconstructed. The roof structure, the facade and the inner walls have been renovated.
